Win Chill Cold Storage begins expansion

Winchill Rendering Phase 2

Win Chill Cold Storage moved forward this week with the expansion of its refrigerated foods warehouse and distribution center in Foundation Park in northwest Sioux Falls. Win Chill is scheduled to open its first phase of the project, a 205,000-square-foot facility in May, but because of high demand, construction began this week on an additional 125,000 square feet of storage space.

Win Chill Cold Storage is a full service cold storage public warehousing company that blast freezes, stores, handles and prepares for shipping by truck or rail a variety of frozen and refrigerated products. Phase one includes over 7.7 million cubic feet of storage space to be used for warehousing and distribution. Phase two is an $18-20 million addition that will add nine additional loading docks and 5.4 million cubic feet of storage space.

“When we all came together to develop this facility, we knew it had tremendous potential, and the demand has lived up to those expectations,” says Win Chill president Mike Rush. “We continue to hear from companies throughout the region that are interested and need this type of facility. Demand has been tremendous.”

Phase two is expected to be completed by December of this year.  Gil Haugan Construction of Sioux Falls is the construction lead on both phases, and Tippmann Innovation is providing building and technical support.

Win Chill will employ around 75 employees when phase one opens in May.
